Challenge

Corvus Energy aimed to reduce the volume of technical support inquiries while improving the efficiency of the battery selection process for marine vessels.

The product was designed for both commercial operators and private owners of electric and hybrid vessels (e.g., ferries, offshore vessels). Battery configuration involved multiple technical variables, making the pre-sales process complex and highly dependent on direct consultation with sales and support teams.

The objective was to create a new digital tool that would:

  • Structure and simplify the configuration process
  • Enable more autonomous decision-making
  • Reduce operational dependency on support
  • Scale alongside a growing product portfolio

my role

I worked as a UX/UI designer in a cross-functional team, collaborating closely with developers and technical stakeholders.

My responsibilities included:

  • Translating complex technical parameters into an intuitive, guided flow
  • Participating in workshops and stakeholder interviews
  • Designing interactive prototypes
  • Evolving the interface as new battery systems were introduced
  • Designing a lightweight admin dashboard providing project and user overview

The solution was continuously refined based on operational feedback.

Strategic Insights

Insights gathered during workshops and stakeholder interviews revealed:

  • The battery selection process was technically dense and difficult to navigate without expert assistance
  • Users required structured guidance rather than static specification sheets
  • Sales teams lacked visibility into early-stage configuration activity
  • The expanding product portfolio required a modular and scalable interaction model

These findings informed the decision to design a step-based, guided configuration tool rather than a static calculator interface.

Results

The implemented configuration tool:

  • Reduced the volume of support inquiries
  • Shortened the pre-sales process
  • Improved operational efficiency for sales representatives and consultants
  • Structured complex decision-making into a clear, guided journey
  • Introduced a comparison feature for evaluating multiple battery configurations
